RGBeats Live with Loom & Satellite Studios

As Night Cycles played live lots of people painted on a canvas that was 1.5metres long. This is the end result.

On Thursday, December 8th 2011, something beautiful happened.

A group of artists who had recently set up studio spaces in The Hendrons building on Dominic Street in Dublin opened up the doors of the old textile factory to the public. It was their first exhibition in the vacant space.

Aside from the installations, paintings and film miscellany that were on show in the main exhibition room, two bands were lined up to play in another room on the top floor, Night Cycles and Patrick Kelleher and His Cold Dead Hands.

RGBeats was kindly asked to do a live painting as Night Cycles played. Unsure with how it all would go, I came along armed with acrylics, a canvas that was about 1.5 metres wide, paint brushes, rollers and tinfoil.

Everyone who was in the room was invited to join in and paint with me to the music. Thankfully, I wasn’t painting on my own for much longer than a minute. Lots of people dipped in and out of the painting. Dancing and painting. Painting and dancing. It’s a remedy for inhibitions.

More photos from the night can be seen on RGBeats’ Facebook page.

In 2012 I hope to do regular bursts of RGBeats Live. Let’s make it happen.
